Monet is a blue smoke Persian/Maine Coon. He was born the first week of September, 2000. We bought him from our vet at the time. My husband fell in love immediately! I called him at work to tell him I found the kitten, told him where it was, and he said to go check out the cat. When I arrived (on my lunch break, no less), guess who was already there holding the kitten and totally in love. You're right-my husband, Heath. There was no turning back-told you he was a softy and loves cats! We went back after work to pick up a newly bathed kitten.
He has the most incredible personality--he's so affectionate and friendly. He loves to cuddle and knead on my throat and face at 1:00 a.m., 2:00 a.m., 3:00 a.m., you get the picture. The first few weeks we had him, I was completely sleep-deprived and looked like I had been attacked!
My friend, Victoria LaRosa, used to talk with me all the time about cats and the differences she found with her Persian and Himalayan. I always dreamed about one day getting a Persian, and she and I spent quite a bit of time discussing the subject. Her cats were beautiful. February of 2000, Vicki was diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma multiform brain tumor-it's the most aggressive kind of brain tumor you can have. She went through surgery to remove what they could, radiation, and died September 6, 2000. That was the first time I had every lost a peer/friend/someone MY AGE. It was just heartbreaking, and I still think about her all the time. So, the reason for sharing this story is, naming our kitty Monet is a tribute to my very sadly missed friend, Vicki, whose one cat was named the same. We call him Mony, but it meant a lot to me to use this name so I will always fondly remember the cat chats we had, our lunches, the Christmas presents from her, the cat calendar she gave me, and how I spent time with her when she was sick. I was away on vacation when Vicki left us, which was devastating-I never got to say goodbye or see her one last time. I believe we all have guardian angels out there, and I believe Vicki sent me Mony to love and remind me of our friendship, however fleeting.
Vicki-I love and miss you very much. This song is for you (Spirit in The Sky). Hugs and purrs in heaven, sweetie. |
